From January to April, the import and export volume of textiles and garments between China and Africa increased by 8.7% year-on-year

Recently, the China-Africa Textile and Garment Industry and Trade Cooperation Matching Event was held in Changsha. Guests and representatives engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics such as the synergy of the textile and garment industry chain, capacity cooperation, and market expansion.

In recent years, Chinese enterprises have intensified the construction and investment in various economic and trade parks in Africa, promoted industrial chain cooperation between China and Africa, and made significant contributions to local tax revenue, employment and export earnings. In the textile and garment sector, the trade volume between South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and other countries and China has grown strongly. The textile and garment trade between China and Africa will undergo a strategic upgrade from "product export" to "co-construction of production capacity". From January to April 2025, the import and export volume of textiles and garments between China and Africa reached 7.82 billion US dollars, increasing by 8.7% year-on-year. China-africa cooperation in textile and garment not only has a solid foundation, but also has profound potential for development.

Zhang Shengbin, a second-level inspector of the Department of West Asia and Africa of the Ministry of Commerce, said that the Ministry of Commerce of China will take the implementation of the "Ten Partnership Actions" between China and Africa as the main line, continue to encourage and support China and Africa to strengthen cooperation in the textile and garment industry, and constantly enrich the connotation of mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Africa.

The combination of the two sides can enhance the value of the entire industrial chain from "cotton cultivation" to "garment export".

African countries have also taken active actions. They have planned and constructed multiple textile and garment industrial parks and provided policy support such as land rent reduction and export tax rebates to the enterprises that settle in. They even plan to double the export value of textiles and garments by 2026.
