5 Engagement Party Ideas & Themes

When it comes to engagement party ideas, you don't have to spend a lot of money to make a huge impact. With just a few props and a great theme, you can have a memorable event in a very short amount of time. Here are some of our favorite engagement party ideas, themes and decorations.

1. Summer BBQ Garden Party

Transform your garden into the best barbecue in town. BBQ parties are easy to throw and budgets are easy to control. If you don't have a large outdoor table, build a large seating area with mats, rugs, hay bales and outdoor chairs. Chair covers can make the scene look more uniform. Set up a drink mixing station so kids can add juice and fruit to their lemonade and adults can make their own cocktails. A fire pit will keep the party going late into the night and is the perfect place to roast marshmallows.

2. Picnics in the park

Picnics are a quintessential British summer activity, perfect for a relaxed engagement party. If you can find a large enough back garden, set up a table and cushions. Hang ribbons and tassel garlands from trees and prepare small picnic baskets for your guests with paper plates, napkins and cutlery. Play a big game of baseball or take part in outdoor games.

3. Glitter Theme

When else in your life will someone give you a ton of bling? A diamond theme provides the perfect excuse for tons of sparkle and glitz. Rent an upscale hotel bar or restaurant and start the night with champagne.

4. Flower Theme

Love beautiful flowers? Why not organize a party with a floral theme? Hang up some light colored floral bunting to decorate the walls and spell out you and your fiancé's (wife's) initials in some giant floral letters. Pick up a pack of pretty floral headbands for you and your friends to wear.

5. Recreate your first date

This is a superb idea. If your first date was memorable, recreate it with your friends and family. For example, go bowling, rent a room in a museum where you went to see an exhibit, or go to an outdoor movie theater for some wine and snacks. Hang a relationship timetable and record all your important dates. Have all your guests write down date ideas for the two of you and put them in a cute jar.
