The International Fashion and Textile Expo 2024 opened in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent on the 22nd. The three-day expo is attended by more than 150 companies from seven countries.
Uzbekistan, located in the center of Central Asia and the ancient Silk Road, has a population of about 36 million, accounting for 60% of the total population of Central Asia, making it a large consumer market in the region.
As the world's fifth largest cotton producer, Uzbekistan produces an average of 3.5-3.7 million tons of seed cotton annually and can process 1-1.2 million tons of lint, making it an excellent platform for textile trade.
Over the past five years, Uzbekistan's GDP growth rate has remained above 7%, with a favorable economic and trade environment, and has made textile an important industry for the national economy and export earnings.
At present, there are more than 3,500 textile enterprises and 4,700 garment enterprises in the textile sector in Uzbekistan, with an annual output of 700,000 tons of cotton yarn, 1.2 billion meters of fabrics, 1,407,000 tons of knitted fabrics, 2.2 billion pieces of garments and 132 million pairs of socks, and an import and export volume of textiles, garments and fabrics of 2 billion U.S. dollars.
