The Moroccan government recently announced after signing an agreement related to the Rabat project that China's Sunrise Group will invest 2.3 billion dirhams (about $240 million) to build two textile mills in Morocco.
The plants in Fez and Shirat, near Rabat, will be Sunrise's first manufacturing sites in Morocco and are expected to create 7,000 direct jobs and more than 1,500 indirect jobs.
The projects will produce yarns, fabrics and clothing to help Moroccan manufacturers reduce delays and logistics costs and meet international orders without middlemen, the prime minister's office said in a statement. These projects will also help create an integrated supply chain.
Most of Morocco's textile exports go to Europe.
According to domestic media reports, the government further stated that the initiative is in line with Morocco's broader strategy to develop its industrial sector and strengthen its regional leadership in textile manufacturing.
