The global textile machinery shipment data for 2024 has been revealed, with growth in these areas exceeding expectations

The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) recently released the 2024 Global textile Machinery shipment Statistics Report. This statistical report covers over 200 major textile machinery enterprises worldwide, including spinning, texturing, weaving, knitting and printing and dyeing equipment.

In 2024, the global shipments of cotton spinning frames and rotor spinning frames decreased by 40% and 39% respectively year-on-year. The spinning frame for wool spinning increased by 62%. The shipment volume of texturing machines increased by 77%, and that of shuttleless looms rose by 32%. The shipment volume of circular knitting machines decreased by 15%, while that of flat knitting machines increased by 16%. The dyeing and finishing sector increased slightly by 6%.

Spinning machinery

In 2024, the total shipment volume of cotton spinning frames decreased by 3.8 million spindles to 5.92 million spindles. Most of the new shipments flowed to Asia and Oceania (90%), and the shipments in this region decreased by 36% compared with 2023. Shipments to Africa, Europe (including Turkey), North America and Central America decreased by 64%, 56% and 90% respectively. Only shipments to South America (+1.7% to 82,600 ingots) and Eastern Europe (+12% to 10,500 ingots) increased. The six major investment countries in this field are China, India, Turkey, Bangladesh, Egypt and Indonesia.

In 2024, a total of 623,000 spindles of rotor spinning machines were shipped globally, a decrease of approximately 390,000 spindles compared to 2023. 89% of global shipments were directed to Asia and Oceania, where shipments declined by 5% to 557,000 ingots. China, India and Turkey are the top three investors in the world's rotor spinning machines, but their investments have decreased by 32%, 57% and 56% respectively. Shipments in all major destination countries except Vietnam and Bangladesh (the fourth and sixth largest destinations in 2024) declined. Compared with 2023, shipments in these two countries increased by 214% and 44% respectively.

In 2024, the global shipment volume of wool spinning frames will increase to 600,000 spindles (+60%). It was mainly driven by the growth in shipments from Asia and Oceania and Eastern Europe, with the two regions reaching 138,000 ingots and 15,000 ingots respectively. 40% of the total shipments are sent to Iran, 30% to China, and 13% to Vietnam.

Ammunition loading machine

The global shipment volume of single hot box texturing machines (mainly used for nylon filament) increased from nearly 43,000 ingots in 2023 to 84,000 in 2024, representing a growth of 95%. In 2024, Asia and Oceania will remain the largest destination for single-hot box pullers with a 98.5% share. China, Vietnam and India are the three major investors in this field, accounting for 95%, 1.01% and 0.97% of global shipments respectively.

In the category of double hot box texturing machines (mainly used for polyester filament), the global shipment volume increased by 80% to 960,000 spindles. Asia's share of global shipments has increased to 98%, and China continues to be the world's largest investor, accounting for 95% of global shipments.

Weaving machinery

In 2024, the global shipment volume of shuttleless looms increased by 32% to 226,000 units. The shipment volumes of the "air-jet loom" and "water-jet loom" categories increased by 10% and 56% respectively, reaching 58,000 units and 143,000 units. The number of rapier looms and shuttle looms decreased by 7% to 25,000 units. The main destinations of shuttleless looms are Asia and Oceania, accounting for 97% of global shipments. 97%, 87% and 99% of the global air-jet looms, rapier/shuttle looms and water-jet looms are respectively transported to this region. The main investor country for all types of looms is China, with its shipment volume increasing by 30% (air-jet looms), 38% (rapier and shuttle looms), and 63% (water-jet looms).

Circular knitting machines and flat knitting machines

In 2024, the global shipment volume of circular knitting machines declined by 15% to 28,000 units. Asia and Oceania are the major global investment regions in this category, accounting for 81% of global shipments. China is the most popular destination, accounting for 45% (10,786 units) of the total shipments, a 42% decrease compared to 2023. India and Vietnam ranked as the second and third largest destinations with 3,899 and 2,559 units respectively.

In 2024, the shipment volume of flat knitting machines increased by 16% to 135,000 units. This growth was driven by Asia and Oceania, which received 96% of the global shipments. Shipments to all other regions have declined. China remains the world's largest investor, accounting for 82% of the total shipments.

Dyeing and finishing machinery

In the field of continuous fabric processing equipment, the shipment volume of stretching and setting machines increased from 1,833 units in 2023 to 2,230 units in 2024, representing a growth of 22%. This figure includes the estimated total shipment volume of luffing shaping machines from companies that did not participate in the ITMF survey. The companies participating in the survey reported that the results for all other machines in this category were mixed. The results for continuous dyeing (cold dyeing) machines dropped by 53%, while those for continuous dyeing (pad dyeing) machines rose by 390%. In the field of intermittent processing equipment, the shipment volume of roll dyeing/warp dyeing machines decreased by 44% in 2024 to 371 units. The shipment volumes of air flow dyeing machines and overflow dyeing machines increased by 18% to 907 units and 5% to 2,221 units respectively.
