4 Textile Innovations Defining 2025

Each year, the most renowned and forward-thinking textile and wallcovering brands gather in Paris to present their latest collections at the annual Déco Off fair. This event is always a treasure trove of inspiration. While the new lighting, furniture, and tableware designs certainly impress, our editors focus especially on the fabrics, wallpapers, wallcoverings, and trims for fresh ideas. Here, we’re highlighting the top five motifs and details set to dominate textiles and wallcoverings in 2025.

Textural Sheers

Textural sheers made a bold statement at this year’s Déco Off, with fabrics that go beyond the traditional delicate and airy feel. These sheers were elevated with unique materials like jute and raffia or designed with intricate lace-like constructions, adding more texture, depth, and character. Many of these sheers also come in double widths and drape beautifully, making them perfect for curtain designs.

The new collections showcased stunning fringed jute sheers and appliqué eyelash sheers, as well as lace-inspired sheers with vertical stripes reminiscent of macramé. Additionally, there were striking sheers finished with jute cording and delicate embroidery details.

Metallic Threads Luxury was subtly woven into this year’s Déco Off collections, with delicate metallic threads and gold veining adding a touch of glamour. These metallic accents, whether in fabrics or wallcoverings, bring an elegant shimmer that elevates any space. Perfect for decorative fabrics or adding a touch of sophistication to a powder room, these textiles and wallcoverings offer a beautiful way to enhance interiors.

Silver and platinum-like threads were embroidered in mod floral patterns on textured backgrounds, while silver leaf was applied to silk and abaca, with hand-cut abaca outlined in yellow gold detailing. In another standout, gold motifs were lightly embroidered onto a soft virgin wool base, echoing the delicate beauty of fine jewelry.

Kilim and Flatweave-Inspired Fabrics Antique rugs were a major inspiration this season, with thicker yarns, heavier weights, and kilim and flatweave-style motifs evoking a sense of travel and adventure. These textiles gave the feeling of stepping into another world, transporting visitors to far-off lands through their rich textures and patterns.

Drawing from the timeless appeal of Berber rugs and traditional kilim stripes, one standout textile was a jacquard reimagining of an archival design. Other collections took cues from 1930s rugs, with intricate designs like Adagio and Pavage capturing the elegance of that era. North African influences also made their mark, with textiles inspired by the bold patterns of Berber rugs, named after mountain oases that nourish the land in Tunisia.

Washed and Warped Fabrics Distressed fabrics, inspired by runway trends and sometimes crafted from recycled fashion materials, introduced a relaxed, vintage vibe to floral designs. These fabrics exuded an antiqued charm, adding depth and character to traditional floral patterns.

One notable collection celebrated the brand’s rich history, diving into its archives to bring forward washed floral designs reminiscent of the 1970s. These vintage-inspired florals were showcased in their full glory, capturing the timeless appeal of eras past while maintaining a contemporary edge.
