Many people head to the beach or host a big summer barbecue over Memorial Day weekend. But when May 27th rolls around this year, we should all take a moment to remember and thank our heroes who have sacrificed their lives while serving in the military.
1. A moment of silence.
Join the national commemoration at 3 p.m. local time. Take at least a minute to express your gratitude, love and prayers to the soldiers, veterans and the many men and women who have sacrificed their lives serving our country.
2. Lay flowers on the graves of soldiers.
Even if your weekend is filled with family fun, you should pay respect to the fallen by donating to the Memorial Day Flower Fund.
3. Visit a national park.
There are more than 400 national parks in the United States, each offering a unique perspective on America.
4. Learn how to play patriotic songs.
Dust off your guitar and take the time to learn how to play a special song that fits the occasion.
5. Visit a local cemetery.
You can volunteer to place flowers and flags on graves at local or military cemeteries. Or just stop by to pay tribute to our nation’s heroes.
