At 240 million euros, China once again became the largest export market for German textile machinery

ITMA ASIA+CITME, which will be held in Shanghai from October 14 to 18, will feature 49 VDMA member companies again. The German delegation is the largest foreign delegation at the exhibition.

Participating VDMA members cover almost all the different machinery categories, with emphasis on spinning and man-made fibers, nonwovens, weaving, weaving, knitting and knitwear, finishing and dyeing, and textile processing. The theme of this year's VDMA event in Shanghai will be "Smart Technologies for Green textile production". VDMA members are committed to reducing resource consumption in the textile value chain through efficient technologies. The goal is to harness the potential of resources such as textile materials, water, energy and chemicals to minimize CO2 emissions. Therefore, the show is an opportunity for VDMA members to show that they are still at the forefront of new ideas, products and technologies in the textile machinery industry.

Commenting on the expectations for ITMA ASIA this year, Dr. Harald Weber, Managing Director of the VDMA German Textile Machinery Association, said: "ITMA Asia 2023 is the first exhibition after the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that people can meet again after years of lockdowns and travel restrictions makes the event special. At the same time, the economic situation has deteriorated markedly. But there is some light at the end of the tunnel. This makes it even more important for VDMA member companies to participate in ITMA ASIA 2024. Participation in the event is crucial to ensure the exchange of information between Asian machinery manufacturers and textile producers and to prepare for the industry restart."

In the past few years, about 50% of Germany's textile machinery and accessories have been exported to Asia. From January to July 2024, due to the weak global economic situation, about 580 million euros worth of textile machinery was shipped from Germany to Asia, which is 25% lower than the same period in 2023. With imports of 240 million euros, China was once again the largest export market, followed by India, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Vietnam.
