Pakistan and Morocco are competing for orders! The Sichuan Normal University team has made the traditional textile industry thrive with just a piece of cloth.

Recently, the entrepreneurial team led by Yang Can, a senior student from the School of Clothing and Design Art of Sichuan Normal University, is actively preparing to travel to other places to negotiate fabric export matters with clothing companies. If this negotiation is successful, the new type of fabric developed by the team will be exported to Pakistan and Morocco, adding new achievements to their overseas market expansion journey.

From campus laboratories to international orders

Yang Can and his classmates embarked on their entrepreneurial journey since their freshman year. At first, Yang Can was attracted by the unique charm of traditional Chinese ethnic costumes, especially those of the Yi ethnic group. After on-site research, she found that although the fabric of Yi ethnic costumes has its own characteristics, there are deficiencies in terms of comfort, durability and environmental friendliness for daily wear. So, she joined forces with nine classmates, leveraging their respective professional strengths, to start the fabric research and development work. In 2023, the team successfully developed a new type of fabric that better suits modern usage habits. In 2024, Chengdu Tianyiya Clothing Co., Ltd. was established. Each member performed their own duties to promote the company's development. The company's independently developed new eco-friendly clothing fabrics entered the international market. The first batch of products were exported to Madagascar and were honored as designated items by the Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar in China.

At present, the team is focused on the development of functional fabrics, such as cool-feeling fabrics and flame-retardant fabrics. This negotiation and cooperation with Pakistan and Morocco is a crucial step for the team to expand overseas markets and is expected to bring more newly developed clothing fabrics to the international market. And these two major markets are unleashing unprecedented new opportunities in the textile industry!

The demographic dividend and the golden opportunity of fashion hubs

Pakistan has a huge consumer base of over 200 million. With the improvement of living standards, the demand for eco-friendly and comfortable fabrics has seen explosive growth. The annual growth rate of high-quality fabric procurement has exceeded 15%, and environmentally certified products have long been in short supply.

Morocco, as the gateway to northwest Africa, has established a stable consumption cycle with its distinct four seasons. Its fashion industry, with an annual output value of over 5 billion US dollars, not only gathers numerous local brands but also serves as an important hub for clothing trade in Africa.

The two major markets, one focusing on the upgrading of essential consumption and the other occupying the high ground of the fashion industry, are both eager to seek high-quality fabrics that combine design sense and functionality, and are in urgent need of stabilizing the supply chain to inject vitality. They can be regarded as the golden track for textile enterprises to go global.

Policy, technology and culture are driven by three wheels

The tariff reduction policies under the free trade agreement between China and Pakistan have been continuously deepened, and Morocco's "Green Industry Plan" encourages the import of environmentally friendly fabrics. Under the dual policy benefits, the cost of textile exports has been significantly reduced. The cool-sensing fabric developed by Yang Can's team has been tested to lower the temperature by 5℃. The flame-retardant fabric meets the EU standards and has significant technical advantages.

Meanwhile, the team integrated Yi ethnic patterns into fabric design to create a culturally differentiated competitive edge and achieve a perfect combination of technology, culture and policy. From campus laboratories to international orders, from the improvement of traditional fabrics to the research and development of functional products, this student team has proved with their actions that in the highly competitive textile industry today, innovation and differentiation are the keys to breaking through. Their successful experiences may provide brand-new development ideas and directions for the overseas expansion of traditional textile enterprises.
