To reduce the dependence on wood pulp, China's first 5,000 tons of fungus biomass fiber project was put into operation

On March 28, Xinxiang Chemical Fiber Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as "Xinxiang Chemical Fiber") annual output of 5,000 tons of fungus biomass fiber research and development pilot project, in the egret bio-based new materials industrial Park officially put into operation.

The total investment of the project exceeds 200 million yuan, and it is the first industrial project of fungus biomass fiber in China. The project put into operation, not only conducive to China's recycled cellulose fiber to reduce the dependence on imported wood pulp raw materials, promote the upstream raw materials to achieve autonomy and control, and industrial green development has taken a new step.

Shao Changjin, secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of Xinxiang Chemical Fiber, told China Textile News that at present, about 80% of the wood pulp raw materials used in the production of recycled cellulose fibers in China rely on imports. The cellulose content of fungi is very high, even higher than that of wood. Studies have shown that 3 tons of fungus can be made into 1 ton of pulp, so fungus is very suitable for use as a raw material for regenerated cellulose fibers.

Yao Fajun, general manager of Xinxiang Mycelia New Material Technology Co., LTD., introduced that the recycled cellulose fiber filament and staple fiber made of mycelia as raw materials, in addition to the characteristics of ordinary recycled cellulose fibers, also has natural antibacterial and antiviral properties, which are not available in other raw material manufactured products.

After nearly a year of construction, the project has successfully produced products such as fungus cellulose using fungus grass as raw material and three-element separation technology. Ji Yudong, vice chairman and general manager of Xinxiang Chemical Fiber, said that the industrialization of fungus fiber is not only a technological breakthrough, but also a "green revolution" of textile raw materials. The project not only realized the extension from fungus pulping to fiber manufacturing, but also realized the extension from industry-university-research cooperation to the whole industry chain.

"After the discovery of this new raw material, the company, through continuous research and development, has all mastered the technology and process of using the fungus as raw material to produce pulp and spinning, and obtained 6 national invention patents and 1 United States invention patent." In the future, we plan to lay out 3 to 5 points in the country, and gradually build a production base with an annual output of 1 million tons of fungus new materials, to provide green high-quality fungus pulp raw materials for the domestic recycled cellulose fiber industry, to get rid of the situation of a large number of raw materials dependent on imports, and to improve the autonomy and control of raw materials upstream of the industrial chain." Yao Faquan said.

Yuan Jianlong, executive chairman of the Textile Industry Association of Henan Province, said that the fungus fiber project is a rich people project that runs through the first, second and third industries, and is also a project with independent intellectual property rights, which is the concrete embodiment of a breakthrough in the development of new fibers in China. He suggested that the project give full play to the advantages of green, environmental protection, antibacterial and degradable products, further increase the research and development of downstream products, and expand the application to the field of health care and maternal and child health.

Xinxiang Chemical Fiber recently released the 2024 annual report shows that in 2024, the company achieved a total revenue of 7.366 billion yuan, down 0.18%; Net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 246 million yuan, an increase of 682.52%. In the future, the company will focus on biomass cellulose fiber and spandex, and carry out research and development of new functional materials such as fungi to improve product grade, added value and competitiveness.

"In the future, we must strive to play the 'three cards' of fungal fiber, Shousel fiber and Ressel fiber, cultivate and expand new quality productivity, and help build a green textile industry system with integrity, advanced nature and safety." Shao Changjin said.
